Jeff:

pays pays peace. Welcome to the culture podcast. This is episode 74 to co host Jeff, with my co hosts Anthony.

Anthony:

I was gonna do it off the RIP just to build the whole episode but I'm not going to do it because I'm professional.

Jeff:

Yeah, and we're welcomed or accompanied by our resident guests, Mikey she. But what Ants talking about as the theme of today's episode is no curses. I know I have a potty mouth None. No aunt has a potty mouth. So I felt like it would be a nice little challenge for both of us to see if we could do a whole episode without saying one cuss word.

Anthony:

I don't think we could do it as a quick low sodium diet is like going to a low sodium diet that leaves soda one flew out.

Mikey:

And you guys brought me on because you know that I'm just like a good Christian boy who doesn't swear ever. So

Jeff:

I'm trying to get off the red. Let me give a shout out to our Patreon. We appreciate you we actually have some new content up on the Patreon page. We have we did the DJ Premier versus Havoc from Mobb Deep versus battle where I was representing DJ Premier. And we had one of our patrons. Hi, the grand Kaiser, he did havoc and we actually had and Mikey she's judging right now. So that's up on the Patreon page. Go check it out right now we have it so far the we've only had two votes on the Patreon pages to zero for havoc. So I encourage you to go Oh, really? So I encourage you to go check that out. I mean, that might be kind of I'm pretty sure probably

Anthony:

Kaiser is one of the two brands that the two brothers

Jeff:

Yeah, still have for the Patriots. I need to go on their vote. So we'll see. But right now have it because up, I thought it was closer. And I'm sure he thought it was closer than you know, ended up being closer than what we both thought it was gonna be. It was

Mikey:

a tight battle. And it was one it was one of those that also came down to sequence. Yeah, like, you know, dependent, you guys kind of played the songs that you know, at a time that that made a real equal battle.

Jeff:

So yeah, I mean, you know, if you haven't signed up to be a patron, I would encourage that please. So you can not only support the show, but you can take advantage of these exclusive content. If for whatever reason you don't you want to hear the audio but you don't want to sign up to be patron I mean, we always accept one time donations, you know, hit us up me or wherever and we'll send you the audio clip. But anyway, we got a lot of shit to go over today

Mikey:

it's a quarter in the swear jar.

Anthony:

It hasn't even been three minutes

Mikey:

and also like ant at night did not like necessarily suggest this Jeff was the one who suggested it so because it was a challenge.

Anthony:

He's the one that screws off the risk of

Jeff:

Hey, okay, we're gonna have to put like parameters on here like what constitutes a cuss word?

Anthony:

No, you can't see you can't do the stats because this is what we want to do is the poor use that word a lot like okay, we're gonna say this we're going to say that right now we're officially recording what you heard before then we'll just kind of pre roll now the podcast has officially begun so from this point forward because we're going to restrain from refrain from curse words CJs attention to pre roll we want to edit that part out be like no, we're gonna keep it in for our people keep it not everybody heard it. This is where we begin. No Kurt

Mikey:

and setting the intention like a yoga class. He's like, all right mindset.

Anthony:

I just want to be fair, I just want to be fair, like Jeff just have it he's just idea but Jeff doesn't really understand like it's a mental thing you don't think sometimes it's like

Jeff:

blacks but Lord help me next I want to

Mikey:

get out of a system right okay, let me try I gotta have you do something if the next if you swear again, there's got to be like a swear jar or you got to do something embarrassing like what I don't know I see a workout machine you behind you you have to go and do some rat

Jeff:

laps. Let me try this again. We have a lot of

Anthony:

stuff to discuss. We have a lot of things to do.

Jeff:

We got a few items I want to review. We got a new get a word of the week. I'm gonna let I'm gonna add color where you want to start.

Anthony:

You can start with the album's we're not doing seeing people say the word and we're gonna maybe some to think of certain things that's probably gonna make because I've been doing in my brain. My now we can stick out because here's the thing. All right, we can't say it. But there's an album, which I don't think it's gonna be in this case. There's an album that happens to have a cursor and we're not going to be like, s or s or whatever. Yeah, it's we're reading the promo of what it is. It's not in this one. But we're gonna try this thing out in the future as well. So

Mikey:

are we reviewing Onyx is our old album?

Jeff:

You mean where every song has a cuss word title?

Mikey:

Yeah, exactly. But it's all spelled King right? Slightly incorrect. I

Anthony:

ain't got angry. Oh, gentlemen, I would like to discuss Ross's new Wow

Mikey:

manners net unmanaged never said a swear word

Jeff:

richer than I have a bit

Anthony:

richer than I ever busy. Yeah, it just flows richer than I've ever been love it sounds great.

Mikey:

Do you think that's true? Yes. Yeah.

Anthony:

I don't know. He's known for lying, but I'm gonna roll with

Mikey:

You mean because he was a corrections officer and they bragged about selling drugs. Yeah,

Anthony:

I mean, I say I'm not gonna hold the corrections off. He did a very long time ago.

Jeff:

Go ahead, go with your review on that. I'll give you my

Anthony:

I mean, it's, it's good. It's inspiring. It's what you expect from Ross. Like, like the cocaine dream. Um, the biggest kingpin in the world, kind of, like the Scarface rap basically, like, yeah, he's gotten to a point we've kind of mastered it. Not a lot of people were really good. I mean, Kool G Rap was great at it. Great. Quan, obviously was great at it. It's not a lot of people don't really take it to like its nth degree. Like, I'm going to push this thing as far as I can possibly go. And that's what Ross does. And like, the thing I've always appreciated about Ross more than most rappers that Ross Ross is he's a he's a he's a really good rapper, but he's a great a&r. Like he his his beats his beat selection ism. packable for sure, a lot of rappers are like, I don't know about this one or that one. He always find something that fits his voice, his style his swag every single time. Do I think that album was good? Hell yeah. I think the junk with his boys isn't bless his BL last blast.

Mikey:

I did not know how to set it. Yeah, I mean, that's that's a stretch.

Anthony:

Last Okay, yeah. And I'm trying not to curse here. The job with that one. Oh, the gentleman him and Jasmine Salomon. I love I look doubled the first thing that I really liked that one just because like Jasmine 21 Savage. Oh, yes. Yeah. And a joint with him and Benny the budget. Those are my three favorites on the album. That song with Benny is burner. Benny, Benny Spinney. Brazil the cast Benny's any different. I like, yeah. How many mics are giving a man? A? Wow, what? For? Wow, that's

Jeff:

the first one we've given. That's heavy, dude. That's the first one we've given.

Anthony:

It's not perfect, but it's one of his best albums in the foot. Hip hop from 2021. It's one of the best albums this year easily.

Jeff:

I mean, ease. Let me give you my take. I concur. I think it's one of the better albums that came out this year for sure. 12 tracks long. The thing that he talked about you You alluded to, he talks a lot about drugs and money and success. But and I've heard people say that, you know, why does he always talk after all, he's named himself one of the most notorious drug kingpins out of California freeway Ricky Ross. That's what he's named after.

Mikey:

You don't say Seattle California wasn't out of Florida

Jeff:

California. Rick Ross is out of California the rapper not the notorious drug kingpin.

Anthony:

How bad is getting you Rick Ross is cross

Jeff:

and tour is that two rappers are named after him. Because freeway is also named after freeway Ricky Ross. So you know I'm saying the Politzer joint produced by timberland. I like that one. You mentioned rapper states feature and Benny that's my favorite joint. I was gonna curse it but that's my favorite joint. On the album. I think at this point, anything we Grizelda on it is instant hit. Like the boys just good. And they don't hop on a waxed up. made it out alive is the one you said we blast on it like that one. I like the beats on the album. Mostly all of them. The warm words and a cold world feature in what is it? Why late in future? I like that one.

Mikey:

Yeah,

Jeff:

they sample the sample. I like it mainly because they sample that David Porter. I'm afraid the masquerade is over. Yeah, because that's like one of the most sample joints in hip hop history. You're Molly remember from LL Cool J he used it he's the first one that came to mind when I used it on that song. It'll bomb big he used the Wu Tang

Mikey:

Yeah, yeah. Yeah.

Jeff:

Everybody has sampled that joint though. Wiggle that one song he has we were dream doll that's my least favorite. Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle whatever. Like I'm good. I'm good on wiggling

Mikey:

but the feel it feels like attractor was like those push to be on there. Yes. You know, they wanted something kind of more dancey things and then more kind of catchy and you're wormy.

Jeff:

Yeah, I hate that. I mean, I get it. You know, that's probably the one we're gonna hear on the radio. But it's like what you it's like when he was like, I hate that song so much. But that's the radio song. You know what I mean? But overall, I give it a 3.5 mics. And like I said, it's gonna be very hard for me to give anything more than that. Like the standards are gonna be high but you know, and gave it sure I respect it. I give it 3.5

Mikey:

Yeah, I feel like I feel like it's an album that's pulled up so hard by certain songs. I can't and call that my three three favorite songs by far the song of Benny is amazing. And it's like there's but there's you know there's some slacking songs on the album for sure that are that are pulled up by those I think I think I give it a are we bringing it down to quarters are just half, three and a half. All right. I mean, but it's you know, the thing about Rick Ross that I like is like, is he my favorite lyricist? No. I love his voice. I love everything in the world that grunt noise that he makes. But yeah, the box, but the, you know, but the thing that is amazing about him is like, if you listen to the production on this album and you listen to the different beats that are picked, they're all over the place. They're Trappy there's like, you know, some real slow stuff. There's some you know, boom bap stuff, and he's able he sounds perfectly linked to every single song like every song sounds like a Rick Ross song even if it's stylistically completely different. And that's unique. Like I don't think a lot of people can do that. Even on Nasus album like, you know, the king says these albums, you know, he has he has some differences and it just it like it doesn't sound like it's right for him. He sounds like he's, I don't know kind of faking it to make it on certain beats. So but Rick Ross is able to do it kind of across the board. I've always loved him

Anthony:

revisionist history there. But revisionist history Jeffrey So okay, so So guess who did come out this year? And what would you give Kinsey so Kinsey's to

Jeff:

you know how I feel about NAS? I would probably give those just based on the lyrics three and a half I'm not giving nobody four has to be Illmatic Reasonable Doubt type of status. You know, I mean, ready to die, it would have to be that type of caliber for me to give you for an up.

Mikey:

I feel like I sit at three with most like even this recross out and I was like, I think I'm probably just gonna give it a three because four to me seems like it has to be toxic. We're talking the high five the five fives and saying yep five is God

Anthony:

status by five guys. I

Jeff:

just Illmatic and out of five is oh man,

Anthony:

our first quarter. Our first quarter I'll give row three and a half. After we've made some changes.

Mikey:

I know I might go to three actually. Because what are the final might know what you know? Right?

Anthony:

Now he's right. He's right. You know, I'm going to give Ross a three. I'm going to give Russ that three and a half. Oh, I'll switch it up. I'll give Ross the three. I'll give Ross the three and a half out because I listen to I listen to Trump to way more to listen to Richard than ever. Right? I'm sorry.

Jeff:

I didn't even listen to that one.

Anthony:

You should man because I don't I don't know. I don't know who look. I don't know, dude. There you go. You cursed because

Mikey:

I mean, you talked I can't remember it was on the record and or not. But you talked about the people that he's got on the album. Yeah, I'm trying to go through

Anthony:

it's not gonna say like fam is. Alright, ran some pep who's the game? Westside styles. peih Gee to kiss Premier, Snoop Dogg big Krit Jay Electronica, hip boys Big Sean walay Joey badass Conway the machine Ghostface Killah. Close Bankside Prince. I'm like, Alright, first and I know I know. We did a cassette first of all, who's an odd and just follow it up? Because I'm saying How did you How do you get the budget to get all of those guys?

Mikey:

That's my question. Well,

Anthony:

like who you know,

Jeff:

that's gonna get me into the next album. I want to review the case lay because that's basically what he does to. After all these years case lay is still well, fine,

Mikey:

though. Yeah, but dude, that's a DJ though. It's like those compilation DJ albums. Like when funk flex used to put out stuff for what are 20 talks? It's like, you didn't get anybody on because it's like, it feels like it's like, like a music festival or something. You know, but it's like this dude's just another artist that like yes, on to his 2018 album he had Rick Ross and snoop on one song but zero other featured artists right? And so it's like, I just think it's amazing that he was able to just pounce like that. Maybe he signed with a new record label or something. I was just I was surprised. I don't really know him that well, but this album is is I love it.

Jeff:

The new Kay Slay join. So controller Look, he has sauce money. Yeah, Snoop Dogg. Short, right Quan game, keen, Busta Rhymes Benny the butcher Pat pousse a Z my song and we're going to get into a z because you spoke about him before mikey he got Fat Joe Ghostface Killah I'm missing I'm forgetting other people but he got so many heads on that album. It's only nine tracks but it's nine tracks of fire it you know is right up my alley. I know it probably won't be for everybody. It won't be for the young cats it will I probably won't be for southern people. But right up my alley only the best New York rappers is on them. The who's who have old school cats. Every song to me is worthy from the beach to the bars. Like I said I'm still surprised that case lay still putting out fires mixtapes all these years later I'm gonna give this this one a 3.5 Mike's as well. Huh?

Mikey:

It's I can't go that high with it. I mean, I think it's, you know, what I think is interesting on these on these albums always like, I think about like, well, DJ Honda comes to mind because it's just that's one of my favorite albums, but I liked it. He's got like you said, east coast rappers and he's got a lot of West Coast people. He's got you know, Rick won with the game. Like, I don't know, I just liked the way that he's mixing people together. It's not you know, stuff that I would normally see. I also like that sauce money was on the intro. So somebody was sounding a little hurt. Sounds like he needs to drink some tea. I think I think I'd give it I'm gonna I'm gonna give it a two and a half. I like it, but it wasn't it wasn't perfect for me.

Jeff:

I want to play the intro, if you don't mind, because I do find it to be expiring and it embodies how I feel about hip hop.

Mikey:

Do you just say expiring fire

Unknown:

DJ Kay Slay the drama king. The soul controller. It was a time that I stepped away from the coach. Coaches I was soulless and confused with like a 1990 I decided to return in a coach to help restore my soul. Hip Hop saved my life is not

Mikey:

that hard you also mentioned the

Jeff:

podcast a lot I was hoping you didn't curse and you didn't I didn't remember if he cursed or not on that.

Mikey:

That's in the creative content that's cool with me I also I like the fact that he calls himself the drama King drama king like as opposed to a drama queen it's like it's like God thanks for coming to the sleepover Don't be such a drama King

Jeff:

and only listen to one another album and I don't know what other albums he was listening to. I listen to that furious styles noise in the hood joint.

Anthony:

The one you told him to to listen to him. Yeah, up and

Jeff:

coming producer This is his third project. This is a second this year. Though. The name was very clever. It's clearly a play on theory styles. You know the character from Boys in the Hood the Pops. So his name is furious Stiles team did the mixtape album noise in the hood? No. I love the sound real boom bap you know his real boom bappy again, as you know I'm I'm biased because that's what I like. Hot bars hot beats. You know, he's I think he's just a good up and coming producer. He's going places I'm gonna give it three Mike.

Anthony:

I think I think I think the Lou Lou Wow. What do you

Jeff:

mean? Like I said, it's gonna be hard for me to give more than that. But for me to give less than now you got to be trash. And this is what this wasn't trash. You know, I liked it a lot. What's?

Mikey:

What's the trash level, though? I mean, like, what's the like? What's gonna make you give like, you know, 5% tip at a restaurant like this because I feel like this this album to me was like, it was a good first effort. Two and a half. I guess. I would I think I'd give it like

Jeff:

a month, two and a half. What was it a couple of weeks ago? What was it? Was it the stylus joint that wasn't established during like the styles? Now? I think it was the styles.

Mikey:

Yeah, I mean, but what's like, what's, what's an album that deserves like? Like, how low can you go? Like, what's an album that deserves like, a half a mic? Is that like the worst? it's ever been?

Jeff:

So low, and we're probably not gonna I'm not gonna listen to those, you know, I mean, that's the thing. I would have to be a little Johnny or something like that. And I'm not going to listen to that

Mikey:

if we only have if there's only 10 decimal points, right? Because it's like, you can go by halves. And so it's like and then Illmatic and what reasonable doubt What's that? What else is that five Mike ready to die? Infamous?

Anthony:

It's okay. That's a wild barter clear. Like that is crazy. So high is your album better than style? So Wow. Born clear. Like it's yeah, no, no,

Mikey:

no. No, I thought it was like I asked you Jeff. Like I texted you when I was listening to announce because this dude that you know, or something, because I was just wondering if it was like a buddy from high school or something. I was like, Dude, if it's a if it's your buddy from high school, he's killing it. But you know, for like, I don't know, it just kind of been also dude, I must have missed the mark. The album art made me scared. Like, I was like, what kind of terrible you know, Photoshop skills and someone have to make this like I said,

Jeff:

it's funny name when you're when you come into it, knowing what it is up and coming. You know, I mean, it's an up and coming artist. Yeah, I'm coming producer. It's it's a good job. You know, I mean,

Mikey:

no, I appreciate that. For sure. Yeah, I

Jeff:

agree, though. I definitely been better. Yeah.

Mikey:

Now that that even like matters anymore, like, you know, in the stream, and it's like, I barely look at it. And I look and

Anthony:

I know, it just sounds petty. Like

Jeff:

well, you're gonna print vinyl and stuff like that. A lot of people are pressing vinyls now. You know, I mean, that's a big thing. Now that you're gonna want a better looking album covered in that.

Mikey:

I mean, dude, it's 12 inches by 12 inches. That's like the size of a painting that you'd hang in your house. Like that's it's got to look right.

Anthony:

You know, my niece, and I'm proud of her. She wants to. She wants Frank Ocean's vinyl album for Christmas. That's just not that's not the point. The whole thing is like, I will just kind of weirded out like where'd you get a record player from? Yeah, right.

Jeff:

Did you get a hang it up?

Anthony:

No, she actually took a picture. She has an actual record play. Now she wants to collect vinyl, which I think is a nice thing. But I'm like, Where does come from my

Jeff:

dad has a record player from like when he bought remember like in the early 90s. He bought he still got his a Sony the record player then it had like a tape player and then the radio. And then it has some big Sony because he has in his living room to this day. It's like 30 years old.

Mikey:

That's amazing. I have a couple record players but I think it's amazing. How old your niece

Anthony:

17 Yeah. to happen. Yeah.

Unknown:

No, no, no, no, no do it.

Mikey:

Let's let's I have one more album that I want to talk about not album but single. And it's less about the song itself and more about the idea of this. And I don't know if you guys have heard it but it's that there's a new Alia song. I saw that with the weekend. Who saw that boy? Yeah, and it's like, the song itself is like, it's it's good. It's uh, I don't know. But it's, it's the it's the idea of releasing like the posts you miss releasing, you know, she's been dead for how many years like 15 years? And it's like, and then they're gonna put this out like, you know, obviously it's like an old bird has to sign off on that. I didn't I didn't know of it. I didn't recognize very

Anthony:

is it was her in a weekend is rendered as a timberland.

Jeff:

jenseits producing it. Somebody she was Hold on, let me see. Because you would think all the any boy styles, you would think all these people got to sign off on that right? 100% I

Mikey:

mean, it's a little and it's, I don't know if I'm gonna have no remember. They don't make me feel

Anthony:

they don't because remember, for years, you couldn't get a live music because the family held the rights to it the moment they opened up the rights to it. It's not really to missing timberland. They, they might have owned a production of the song. Yeah, they don't own her, though she just sang or whatever, they can do whatever they want

Mikey:

with it, but they still have to clear the sample and stuff. I mean, it's, I don't know, I just always I just think it's a little odd. It's like what that whole period of time where there was so many Tupac albums coming out after he died and it's like, you know, he had just like he was a prolific recorder but I don't know if the song itself is interesting. It's weird though. Because it's like, you know, you're listening to Alia from beyond the grave. And then the weekend. You know, I feel like sounds exactly like Michael Jackson. And so it's like, it feels like you're listening to to depth.

Jeff:

Yeah, I don't know. I don't know how I feel about it. I know. I mean, I know like Tupac probably still has songs in the chamber that they haven't used. I think I think his mom said it before she died. She said he had enough material to release several more albums.

Mikey:

Was not the same as prints mean prints has got 1000 single stops Nope. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I mean to park still alive right on an island with a Cuba. No.

Anthony:

Man Did you didn't let him be. That's true.

Jeff:

Let me get into this new ghetto word. Get a word of the week. And it's actually two words. I'm not going to try not to hurt this tray. LB TR e pound trade lb according to Urban Dictionary, it's means a gun specifically a 357 Magnum. And I remember several of the two just two songs that come to mind I know a lot of rappers have used that phrase. There's two that come to mind 50 cent uses it in the song with the game. How we do where he goes. I give it to you just how you like it girl you're now rocking with the best tre pound on my hip Teflon on my chest and met the man uses the endo in the in the song dangerous ground he goes dangerous ground trade lb seven spin around for my Bredrin clouds come down war and peace I take it to the street anyway. Trade pound 357 Magnum I mean I would never use that word and essentially like yo you don't make me take out my tray pound on you

Mikey:

I just liked it the fact that there's also like a word you know that people say four pounds so I just like that there's weight classes that we're discussing guns by

Jeff:

but there's no way more once this is making

Mikey:

sure oh, what? Like that if the gun yeah weighs less one. It's unloaded. Yes. Yeah,

Jeff:

they start gambrel mostly fake like my tray PowerPoints. Three ounces.

Anthony:

Dude is using that because it wraps well, because if you have 357 It's a heavy is a really heavy gun.

Mikey:

I was gonna say I've only held one in my life versus like that, but it feels heavier than three pounds.

Anthony:

Yeah. I don't know if a tripod is actually three pounds. I just know this a really heavy gun. Right? Like it cuz it's like there's no no, like a plastic polymer joint like the glaucoma that is number three metal is high. Right?

Mikey:

Well, this is like we talked about, I don't know if it was on the record or not. But where we were talking about, you know, the the the police officer who shot I'm just forgetting his name, but she you know, she claims that she was you know, grabbing her taser. You know, the weight difference is so gigantic. It's that that's not an excuse. Right, right. Right. Like that. Who said Who does the the the poll for get

Jeff:

a word of the day? Week? Or who does the voiceover

Mikey:

Oh, it is. That's my favorite thing. I listen to the show every week cuz I love on that.

Jeff:

Yeah. Um, we do have an Is that racist segment? I'll probably leave that on for a little bit later. My son dies that one that voiceover?

Mikey:

He's like, is that right? Yeah, that's funny.

Jeff:

Yeah, I heard about um, actually it was aunt who sent me the Tory give the Tory lanes give where they go cops. I don't know if this is true or not. It goes cops testified that 40 lanes yo, dance bi tch and Megan as he fired his gun. I have to curse on that sense of they don't sound right if you don't curse or we categorize networkers bi tch.

Anthony:

I mean I think out loud because because you're paraphrasing something that was random wasn't it wasn't sent by you you just reading what information Okay, so

Jeff:

supposedly the quote was dance bitch as Megan

Anthony:

voice you did the voice. There was no voice. He just said those words with the voice. It's just like you said it's on a looney tune cartoon. It's not like you'll see me Sam shooting somebody sweet. Like, that's stupid. To talk about the harmful treatment of black. But when something's funny, something's wrong and a part of him off forever. Right? Now this is wrong, but it's the cause once he once I read it, I like I the image came into my mind. That's why I started laughing immediately. Because it's wrong would happen. But if that's what he said, it's actually kinda hilarious. Like, like, this is not the wild wild west you some shooting stone is bang, bang, bang, bang bang in someone's feet. But him but one little tiny rapper doing it to a tall female rapper telling her to dance is just kind of hilarious, my little burned

Mikey:

out and then and then he made her lie. And she said that she stepped on broken glass.

Jeff:

Even though you have a bullet in your foot.

Mikey:

When I'm just like, if we also if we look at it from like a power perspective or juice perspective, she's so much more famous than he is like she has more money than he does. Like, eff that dude.

Anthony:

And she's a smooth like six inches taller than him. So yeah, plus heels. Makes like she can dunk on them. But you know,

Mikey:

it's just what we've talked about. It's just a sad it's a sad comment like

Jeff:

me and spoke about this a few weeks ago on another episode how women get abused, and they stay with their abusers out of fear out of whatever it is, like we talked about Ray Rice knocking out his, his girl, his fiancee on video camera laying her out on the elevator and actually goes and marries him afterwards. Like shortly thereafter, they get married and they live happily ever after. In a man and

Mikey:

but it's but it's hard not to, it's hard not to internalize the you know, the belief that you're nothing. And the person that you're supposed to. It's supposed to love you more than anybody in the world tells you you're nothing you start to believe it. And it's just it's a vicious cycle. I mean, it's it's terrible, but it's like, and our society doesn't believe women. You know, we like also I mean, hip hop, we got to talk about it, like, you know, like, we're, like, a lot of music is violent towards women is violent towards gay people. And like, you know, and it's something that's like, the culture has to like answer for on some level because I think there's been a lot of okayness or just passively O'Kane. And it's, I don't know, man, it's it's reaped a lot of bad juju between genders and between people in society, I think, a lot of negativity that's just been okay. Because it's like, oh, it's just in song or Oh, it's just dude being braggadocious or whatever. It's, you know, it's, it's not I

Jeff:

don't even think it's just black people. I think Latinos too, I can vouch for Latinos. I think that's 100% Demmick to like women, you know, this, they grew up a certain way. They accept a certain type of treatment or, you know, for men, and it's just They normalize it, you know, I'm saying,

Mikey:

I mean, it's definitely not black and Latino only it's it's men. This is all men. I mean, there's plenty of plenty of white male abusers.

Jeff:

Right. But what I'm saying isn't the female aspect of it, like they just allow it and accept it as being normal. You know what I mean? Like, this is just what it is.

Mikey:

I just think. I just think it's all people. I think it's a human element thing,

Jeff:

but standing on violence. You heard about the Jim Jones and Freddie Gibbs beef. According to witnesses, the fight between Jim Jones and his crew broke out with Freddie Gibbs, his crew at the swanky restaurant, Prime 112 in Miami. Apparently the two sides bumped into one another while Jim Jones and his crew were leaving and Freddie Gibbs and his team were walking in. Jim initially approached Freddie over some negative things that gives us said about Jim in the past, while Jim was arguing with Freddy, someone from Jim's crew punch gives him the face. Freddy was then attacked personally by Jim for these large bodyguard was also hit and then kicked in the face while he was down and I guarantee somebody was wearing Timberlands. Somebody was wearing Timberlands when they were stomping them out. Miami Timberlands. Like is this a gang type of war? Like is this like bloods versus Crips or some shit? Is this is this like a gang war type of shit? You know? I mean, like I know what is Jim Jones? What is he blood?

Anthony:

Is? Is negros beaten with other negro? I want to see the other word but since Today's my first day I can't say that. It's negros. Argue with other Negroes. That's it. That's all it is. Like it's always okay. This is what I kind of despise about rap. These guys get into issues with each other and it's never anything about rap.

Jeff:

No, yeah, but is it a gang war?

Anthony:

No, no, no no.

Mikey:

Pretty games gang affiliated Gary, Indiana. He's gonna Gary

Anthony:

maybe so but they just they just like they're just two guys that happen to be rapper, right? I mean, they said if it were just three dudes, different bills to treat stuff, but because they're rappers like, I wonder is it something that's more than a rap?

Jeff:

It's probably something fairly good. That's something in the past about Jimmy and Jim when went up to do what you said about me Dukes.

Mikey:

I just love that they can't you know, it's like it's it's it's like some high school beef about like, what did you say about means he literally just said something about you like you're adults with careers with lives with kids. Like just talk it out

Anthony:

like you would you like you really are. Okay okay all right all right then let's switch this around a little bit you're going to get mad at me about something I said about you on a verse which is probably what it's all came from somewhere it generally is something something on wax

Jeff:

party some

Anthony:

interview yeah and who wasn't was not so cares and so you're gonna get mad at me and you want to fight and do whatever whatever over over lyrics right. Even though in your lyrics you denigrate women you this dude hate that dude. But oh no, come back swinging and shooting that you now do that. But me there's one little full bar to whatever thing that kind of got you thinking a tizzy? Is Us being I hate just getting the swing? Because you said what did I say? What you mean? What did I say? You heard a lyric. I'm not repeating press replay. I'm not telling D again. You in front of me right now that you heard what I said. But if anything I didn't say it will go and threatened violence against you to try to harm you or your family or anything else like that. And then madness that's just rap. That's this competitive nature of it. That's how we get that's how we get Roxanne that's how we get the juice crew and Charisse one is just bars, it's just that's the nature, it gets the blood flowing. Yeah, not everyone takes it like as a personal offense. Like it's it's not major. Like if that so like, like they would have no one's really been camp, like 50 would be killed. Because Because 50 beats it says something about everybody.

Mikey:

Yeah. And also it keeps you in the right. Like, I just think like, one of my one of my favorite sayings of all time is is you know, insecurity is loud. Competence is quiet. And I just liked the fact that these guys said like, they're like, gotta stand up for myself. This is a 45 year old man and Jim Jones, a 40 year old man and Freddie Gibbs. And like, Why do you care what another adult man is saying about you? Like, don't care about it, and you're going to go ahead and get into public fistfight. And, you know, I think a lot of it is like, a beefing. And like, you know, having a fight with somebody or having like, you know, conflict with someone keeps you in the news, even if you're someone who's kind of like, you know, these guys are both relevant in the industry. But there's a lot of people that aren't relevant that get kind of brought back because it's like, oh, they did something, you know, whatever violent or dramatic. The main thing is just like, Why do you care? Like just, you are a successful person, you've got a beautiful car, you've got like, some name ring, you can have a lot of Instagram followers, like don't care about what another person is saying about you have some actual confidence, where

They represent a culture to represent the culture podcast, your mic on on the Patreon on the exclusive Patreon episode we did you mentioned ese because obviously you know played some easy songs he was on the on the playlist. And you said we need to discuss the guy more because we both think he's very underrated.

Mikey:

Totally I mean, it's easy. I always feel like it's a little bit of the I don't know name of person right? Royce the five nine like people that have you know that they're in the shadow of someone that's just way bigger. I mean, but we we've discussed plenty of times. I don't want to forget the name of the it's automatic, like AZ has the best verse off of Illmatic. And yeah, yeah, and I just think that it's people don't talk about people just don't talk about easy. I think he had a weird, you know, his first solo album was, you know, all of his albums have just been fine. But they've had, you know, three or four, like unbelievably crisp songs and just a lot of he's had so many good features where he's got the best verse in the song. Yeah, I think he's someone who's definitely slept on.

Jeff:

Well, the only reason I bring him up is because he announced that he got new music coming out. He went on Instagram he posted he said, I've been off the grid for a minute, but I'm back Do or die to the Lux done dropping in two weeks got me feeling like this got me feeling like this Oh flick from oh six I'm gonna get mines. So I'm excited for that.

Mikey:

I feel like and then he's put out a bunch of singles you know in the meantime and it's an all the singles have been great.

Jeff:

Yeah I think he's very underrated I think to me he's like the closest thing to NAS as far as like, you know, the way he sounds a bar like he doesn't and I compare him to he's like a mix of NAS and big pond because he doesn't waste any words, you know, I mean, he doesn't there's no spaces in between. Like, it's just a verse is just filled with words. There's like no breathing like he just spits

Mikey:

he's also just got such a crisp delivery, like his voice is you know, it's just nasal enough so it's like you can just I don't know it's really precise.

Jeff:

Like he could ask you would you rap in big pond combined? Yeah,

Mikey:

he put out two albums in 2019

Jeff:

that I didn't know about they definitely went under the radar. Yeah, for sure.

Mikey:

I mean, it's you know, it's and then you look at like the firm like that project I think that you know, his verses were some of the best on there. It's I don't know if he's another one of those people that like I don't think I think everybody likes him. I don't think anybody would slide him and say that he's not great but just nobody has them in their in their tops. I think Professor lyrical talked about him a lot when he was on your show and that's I just appreciate it. I feel like when people bring up ese it's it's someone who actually knows what they're talking about someone who's like actually listened between the lines marking

Anthony:

prompt and not flunky. That's cool cuz y'all keep cuz the whole thing about AZ I keep talking about him and what his ability and everything else like that. He should have been a star if he's not a star that should completely upon him. Um, no,

Jeff:

not really. No. Sometimes it's out of your control. Sometimes you get blackballed from the game. We don't know if NAS did some behind the scenes to not get him you know, elevated because he didn't want him getting bigger than him. We don't you know, we don't know who was pulling what strings you don't know what beefy hardware what you know, executives, there's a lot of things that play into it, man.

Anthony:

Well, whoo. For 25

Jeff:

years. was the last time you heard a Wu Tang song or hot 97 Wu Tang had before high 97 and they refused to play music bro I don't remember the last time I heard a song Aha 97

Anthony:

But it but it didn't stop them they didn't they went over the power 105 And then often right and free money right all over the world.

Jeff:

Yeah, but it puts a halt on your momentum bro. You don't get as far as you might have possibly could have gotten when certain doors are closed, right, man?

Anthony:

Do you but if you're one of those, I'm saying always I'm calling flunking because you're supposed to be one of those guys, and one of the people everybody respects and I respect him as a lyricist. And I understand what you're saying about everything going wrong and think that might have been back channeled and so on so forth. I don't believe not not want a bit of that thing at all. Because the whole thing is that when you that fire, people love and respect you that much. You're going to be featured on somebody something somewhere. Yeah. And that and that was that was always here, there and everywhere. Do you that's the reason why I like the whole AZ thing always befuddles me like, you can be in a contract with anybody, which seemed like he was and you have this ability. And people respect you so much. They don't put you on something. Like it doesn't click to me just make that make sense. Yeah. Well, I

Mikey:

think what I've always thought it was is that it was a it was a label thing, that maybe he and NAS were signed to the same record label. And the the label just decided to to push not lazy kind of got left behind. Yeah, and I don't know. And I oftentimes think when, you know, if you sign a crew, like if you sign someone who's an affiliated actor, whatever, I think that person should go to another record label so they can actually get their shine. Because it's I just feel similar. Yeah, they sound similar. And it's like, you know, everybody's everybody knows ese is like, Oh, he's the dude from life's a bitch. I feel mad, or whatever the keys in Knauss crew, he he wasn't able to turn on the turn work. Oh, did I swear? You said, Ah, oh, what's in the song name, though? I mean, this is a stretch and Bobbito used to talk about that if it's in the creative content, then it doesn't matter. It's not considered a swear. Okay. But I just think he got probably left behind by the label.

Jeff:

Another example was like DMX, you know, once the end, you know, there's been rumors about it. I don't know if he ever did it intentionally or not. But it went when Jay went over when Jay Z went over to Def Jam and became, you know, an executive over there. They basically saying that, you know, he just shelf the Mac, he just took the MX and put them on the shelf, you know what I mean? Because he, you know, he didn't want for whatever reason, you know, DMX putting any content out, you know, he felt like he was competition to him. I don't know, because he helped NAS good on when he went to Def Jam he was on as his new album, you know, hip hop is dead. Was was released while Jay Z was there. You know, so I'm just saying those, you know, there may be no truth to that, but there's just rumors like that. I'm just saying things you know, bad things in the back behind the scenes that we don't know that could be stopping somebody from getting bigger than what they should be.

Anthony:

Yeah, and I think the thing with DMX is not the truth. Like if like I said, Could we talked about it before I said we see the documentary. That man's had a whole bunch of dreams and a whole bunch of legal and personal issues to begin with. Nobody should have DMX FDMA He just couldn't quite get his life together.

Jeff:

And that could be part of it. It can't be trusted you know we're not going to be working with him because we can't trust him he's not going to show up to the studio doesn't

Anthony:

matter and we don't gotta we don't got to you know, we don't got to be the de like disruptive force in life he got that covered. We're good like a sign of first contract you do whatever you need to do but like say all these legal issues and the money and stuff and everything else would have to agree so I mean, that's what was the thing thing was easy like it is so far and few between the only person I can honestly say that gave him a lot of love, I think was Ghostface that it was one thing I think like ACOs feature a lot of one I want to go to projects. Yeah, but it just like I said, it's the man's not smoking like said. And this is what pisses me off about hip hop. You can eat you can. You could live for a very long time off one verse off of one verse. Yeah, what led to be a hit song Nicki Minaj. kind of thought of it or the verses has to be memorable. Nicki made an entire career off of one verse off a monster one single verse off yeah, but

Mikey:

then she was you know, she was a she's a great, you know, concept in her like, she's a great character, where he I feel like, I don't know I've just always kind of looked at him as like God. He's a great lyricist. But he's kind of like worse NAS like as far as a full package like he's not quite as handsome. He's not quite as like, marketable. I don't know and

Anthony:

what's diagnostics same guy same look the same little little hair

Mikey:

cut never sees it. I know. And it's like

Anthony:

the hit a football sees you had to hit this chip. Join the waves on top. Yep. And all clear. I'm just like, not the same. Yeah, yeah, it's amazing. Chip is truth. I just

Mikey:

yeah, I remember people when I was like in high school, you know, we were listening to Illmatic or whatever. And you know, the, you know, the intro where it's AZ talking, and everybody's like, Oh, like now I'm gonna and I'm like, No, that's not not they even sound similar and so it's I just think it's a case of like he's not differentiated enough

Jeff:

that that that's probably what held them back. I would say more than anything. The fact that you know, people might see you as a clone of ours and we already have a NAS you know, I mean, so we don't need another one. Like I said in one of his songs like when he was trying to get a deal you know, some people didn't want to sign him because he sounded like he would rap that Russell Simmons gonna sign up cuz he's crying would you rap back then you sound like a Yoda now with everybody sounds the same and it's accepted. Now back then No,

Anthony:

no, really? I really no, no good because back then it was It wasn't affected you were a clone is that you were complete and clear knock off like leak bleak. Bleak was never J like that's J's does J's young boy. I get everyone's like oh, like trying to be like dead? No. The same thing How would would Dre when Dre tried to create the soup? What would somebody nocturnal Hmm You're not snoop. Anyone have the same thing? totalize can do braze heads the same same voice everything. murder charge can't You can't make the carbon copy of something that's real. I don't know he might have I feel like that's what I'm saying. Like if this whole gym thing like don't make sense like y'all it's not like back in the day back and they need to catch murder charges fight. Who cares?

Mikey:

What this is? It's also where I appreciate you know, sorry, the collective Yeah,

Jeff:

yeah, we don't want elective LLOYD BANKS bottle and Davies formed a group called the Council. I don't know I'm curious to listen to them. I'll give them a chance. I'll tell them a nice to me.

Anthony:

I don't care I don't care why cuz I haven't been doing that whole thing and as babies

Mikey:

yeah Daviess

Anthony:

don't know the baby's nothing relevant whose name is vital, vital. Lord

Jeff:

Beck's is LLOYD BANKS vital and Davies and they probably haven't been vital. He's New York rapper. He's on case laden. You could hear him in some case lay songs. He was dating recently he was doing one of those Joe Budden was

Anthony:

the hero he was getting to hear you Okay, yeah, cuz he's dope No, he's no

Jeff:

content like that. Now but they don't do and that's probably why it comes to three guys. Let's come together and see if we could do so.

Anthony:

No, but Dave is Dave doing he does have a hair fro was amazing.

Mikey:

Did I feel like that's a step down for Davies. They just

Anthony:

they would just say like a baby y'all. Y'all my people. I'm doing y'all aside. Yeah,

Jeff:

I love Yeah. He must be real cool with them. Awesome.

Mikey:

Yeah, sure. I'll sue Florida outside. Not a supergroup. Yeah, no. Yeah, dude. That dudes Nate Votto stands for violence and drugs only. It's what his name is. Oops, I just said the word.

Jeff:

A curse word of the day. So what was the count? Let's count what's the counter so far? Is that like three I mean, we said two. Bi tch is but in the contest that we have a title so we won't count though. We said to Esther significantly

Anthony:

to get it

Mikey:

for the F count is two so I got to

Anthony:

I gotta, I gotta, I gotta I gotta ask him

Mikey:

like, I should just win the last five minutes of the of the of the show just swearing.

Anthony:

What will a fortune like can I come by and I don't know.

Jeff:

I told you I had told me like, I told you it's gonna be a challenge for us to do a whole episode without cursing man. We already got like three full curls.

Anthony:

Compared to what has been before it's actually three to four we use it this is way down.

Mikey:

I was at a rally the night. Right? I was out for a cocktail with friends with a friend the other night and they were like, and I was like, you know, just talking like a normally talking to like, you have just been trying to swear last. And then they also I was like judging someone that I walked in or whatever. Just saying, like, I look at this stupid idiot. And they're like, Yeah, I'm also trying to be less judgmental. And I was like, I literally don't know what I would do with my time. If I couldn't swear or judge people. That's like, 60% of my life.

Anthony:

Swearing keeps you saying I don't care. Nobody say it's like a pressure cooker. I

Mikey:

gotta let you gotta let the pressure off. And once in a while.

Anthony:

Imagine driving my Hey, hey, buddy,

Unknown:

stop.

Anthony:

No, friend, you don't feel like so you don't feel like so? You know, you do not? Yeah,

Jeff:

I was like, I'm missing words what I'm reading actually, I'm not listening. I'm reading to I'm reading Well, Smith's book, halfway done. When I got to the point where he talks about not cursing his songs. He said he used to, you know, when he used to write all his rhymes on a notebook, he used to obviously, you know, use curse words. And then he said his grandmother found his rhyming book. And she read it. And she left him a note. And she said, you know, you know, I like your work. You're, you know, you're really talented. But I feel like you should be able to express yourself without using that kind of language. You know, I mean, that's the real, that should be the real challenge for you. And he said, he took that to heart. And he said, ever since that, you know, he has encouraged I guess just to prove, you know, to his grandmother, he could do it. And you know, I guess in her honor, he has encouraged and I you know, I respect it. That's fine. I feel like sometimes you got to curse to get your point across. Like sometimes just the right half word or the right attitude. That gets the point per off correctly.

Anthony:

Until grandma Shut the hell up. Sure, no, good. No, Grandma, you're writing this note on this notepad inside of this house that I bought to

Mikey:

relax, go fuck yourself up to

Anthony:

date. That's a free day go is stupid. Right? Is the weird thing. The weird thing about Will Smith voice it actually doesn't sound right when he does her know. Even in movies. Yeah, it doesn't use the cursing. No, no, I

Jeff:

just think that's because we're used to not hearing him curse that when he goes on badboys the movies and he's like dropping F bombs or like one or n words. We're like, whoa, you know, just feels weird.

Anthony:

Even if it's like, kind of. I feel like several table reading voice.

Jeff:

I feel like they have to do several takes when he's reading right on the script. Like, you ain't say the N word. Right? You ain't say the F like yo. Did you WILL

Mikey:

YOU DID YOU JUST pronounce it? fuq?

Anthony:

Yeah. It's not okay.

Mikey:

Okay. It's I just, I feel like swearing is you know, I'm a chef. And it's like, you know, sometimes you're like eating something. You're like, what's what does this dish need? And you're like, oh, it needs like a squirt of lemon or lime or it needs like a little more salt. Like swearing is just like that. It's like a punches up the flavor a little bit makes it just like whatever you're saying. Just like, just like and hit a little harder.

Jeff:

He's reading a script. Talentino is like hey, well is not negro. I need you to say the other word. I just need to hear it. Okay. Say like, you mean,

Mikey:

Quentin Tarantino is like, I'm gonna say it 40 times are and see if you

Jeff:

can. This is how I was going to say it will.

Mikey:

That's interesting. Quinton. They just went off for an hour about that,

Anthony:

huh? Like, Sam, Sam, Sam, I've got well there, Sam. Hello, Sam. I got well here. I need you to I need you to tell me how to do the Sam Jackson thing. You know,

Jeff:

we're bringing in as a consultant will pay you to be a consultant.

Anthony:

Speaker. Speaker it'll be great. For 40 years, don't worry about it. You're going to be

Jeff:

before we go. Let me get into the is this racist? Yeah. Let me know how you feel about this. It has to do

Anthony:

yes. But okay. It has to do

Mikey:

with Has there ever been? No, like of course it is. Sorry. Yeah. It has to do with

Jeff:

Kim Kardashian, you know, in the black fishing. This, what do you plan

Anthony:

on selling by the temptations? Just like look, it's Christmas time. I want to put some some dramatic over but I pause it Alright, so Kim Kardashian

Jeff:

has recently been accused of cultural appropriation or quote unquote black fishing. She's responded to those accusations and she said, you know, cuz she came out and she was wearing you know, she had the braids on and the cornrows right. And she says, honestly, a lot of the time it comes from my daughter asking us to do matching hair. I've had these conversations with her that are like, hey, maybe this hairstyle would be better on you and not on me, the reality star explained. But I also want her to feel that I can do a hairstyle with her and not make it that big of a deal either, if that's something that she's really asking for, really once, but I've learned and grown over the years and figured out good ways to communicate with all my kids about all of this. I've definitely learned over time and I've tried to pass that culture of learning onto my kids too. Is it racist that she wears her hair and braids and cornrows? is a cultural appropriation? Is it black fishing, if you will?

Mikey:

I don't know. And what do you have on that? Nothing. Don't

Anthony:

curse. Oh, come on.

Mikey:

You can have a freebie. Nah,

Anthony:

I don't even need it. Then I worked at their whole niche. And their whole, that's when using a black vernacular, their whole steez is pretty much been cultural appropriation off the RIP. Like them doing this thing to their hair isn't any different for them. All of a sudden getting these full round lips in these nice round butts out of a blue when they weren't built like that before. Because Kim wasn't really built like that when she was mess we redo often so Reggie Bush, or she mess with Kris Humphries. Or Miss we get a lot of people and I don't think a sister had was kind of potty lips when she was messing with people you know, before Travis Scott. Or you know, before Tristan Thompson, oh, before whatever Negro athlete entertainer celebrity that you might

Jeff:

be able to fill in a blank and Booker James Harden, they all ran some of them. Yeah,

Anthony:

yeah, they've been pretty, pretty consistent in that area, and so so forth. So I'm not having any issues with interracial relationships at all. But the whole thing is, like, how they say things do things how their entire empire has been built has been about basically who they slept with. And they've been sleeping with people of color for a very long time. Therefore, her putting her hair in this fashion is not necessarily racist, especially since we have no multicultural child, especially that child happens to be the child of Kanye West's gonna be a little bit interesting in our household and unless, so I'm not going to get mad at her for that. No, because I've been mad at them for all the other stuff they've been doing for over a year. So this is not really outside of the realm of no reality to them or reality TV for them, to say things like this a wonder like this not appropriation and so on and so forth, not really taking a bigger, brighter look in that mirror saying that you've been kind of doing this for a long time, we should probably knock it off. But this is the basis of your income, so you're not going to. So this is just another drop in the bucket. Another thing I'm not going to concern myself about them, that family, whatever they have going on, because all I say I don't care, because this is going to be this thing. There'll be another thing. There'll be another thing, there'll be another thing. The more we pay attention to them, the more things going to keep happening, so now it's not racist. It's just the Kardashians being the Kardashians.

Jeff:

Fair enough. But yo, that's gonna be this week's episode. I want to thank Mike he for coming through last year.

Mikey:

Anthony:

Mikey:

Before before we go into that, like, it's Omni Kron right. Yeah. Which is the best Voltron, Voltron like Transformers name. But like, you know, we're flying back east to go see my wife's family and the amount of people that have been like, Wait, you're gonna fly like you're going to New York and I'm like, Hey, everybody. I'm not going back into the world. I'm not going back into hiding yet. Like we're going to a we're not going to New York City. We're going to upstate New York, but like I'm gonna wear my mask I'm gonna do I'm vaccinated I'm gonna do all the things I can't I can't go back into Heidi like COVID hiding again. I'm sorry. I'm just not like can't go back. And I feel you guys it's might be selfish, but it's just like, dude, I'm tired.
